Something for every taste at Wednesday’s show evening

Stuttgart – The big show evening in the Hanns-Martin-Schleyer-Halle on Wednesday, the opening day of the International STUTTGART GERMAN MASTERS Horse Show, has in the past few years developed into a major attraction full of equestrian highlights. “Ticket sales have increased from year to year so we’re also very satisfied with this year’s sales,” said Andreas Kroll, CEO of the in.Stuttgart Veranstaltungsgesellschaft mbH. And the spectators can once again look forward to a colourful programme full of variety on Wednesday 14 November 2012. The evening, which begins at 7.00 pm local time, will not only offer numerous treats for horse lovers but also for those that just appreciate horses and the way they move.

Horse show director Gotthilf Riexinger promises “a colourful equestrian mixture of thrilling sport, stirring formation riding and breeding highlights.” Thrilling sport is provided by evening opener, the Jump and Drive competition where the protagonists in the jumping world start by going round the course on horseback. After passing the finishing line, they dismount and sprint over to the waiting Mercedes-Benz A class car. Seat belts on, they then head off round a kind of slalom course. The competition guarantees a great atmosphere and lots of fun for the spectators.

The thrilling equestrianism also naturally includes the eventing Indoor Derby for the prize donated by WALTER solar. Starting at 9.50 pm, it rounds off the evening. Here all eves will be on “Gold-Michi” Jung who this summer won individual and team gold at the London Olympics. The popular rider from nearby Horb – according to Gotthilf Riexinger “currently the world’s most versatile and best rider,” will face, amongst others, his teammates Ingrid Klimke and Dirk Schrade, who also were both decorated with team gold in the British capital, plus the team bronze medal winner in London, Jonathan Paget from New Zealand.

Between the two competitions lie a good hour of “stirring formation riding and breeding highlights”. It begins at 8.00 pm with an eight-in-hand – a carriage with eight horses in front of it – made up by draught horses from the Marbach stud. Gotthilf Riexinger commented: “We actually wanted to present a ten-in-hand but they wouldn’t have been able to have got round the turns.” They will be followed by Stuttgart mounted Police demonstrating their skills and “the equine colleague’s” various police duties.

A special titbit for the audience is the Hungarian iWEST-Post. Riders standing on the backs of their 24 Bavarian draught horses race around the arena continually forming new figures and formations with their groups. Afterwards Birkhofs Don Diamond FBW will be awarded the “Masters Stallion 2012” prize. Horse lovers become starry-eyed over and over again by the large herd of Arabians belonging to the state stud in nearby Marbach that demonstrates a touch of the horses’ sense of freedom and playful ease of movement.

Pettra Engeländer has been intensively involved for over 25 years with horses, martial arts and dancing and has devoted herself to horseback archery ever since a long stay in Mongolia and her meeting the World Champion archer on horseback, the Hungarian Lajos Kassai, in 2000. She belongs to a very small group of the world’s best in this art of fighting on horses and gained wide renown as a result of her performances in the “Apassionata” equestrian show. The most important basis of horseback archery is the harmonious balance between two living beings.
