Riding as if out on an Irish hunt, he and his ten-year-old gelding Ominerale Courcelle absolved the jumping course and “car slalom” in a total time of 94.02 seconds to relegate local riders Hans-Dieter Dreher on Master de Menardiere (98.39) and Michael Jung saddled on the seven-year-old mare Stute Fischerrocana FST (98.65) into second and third. Double Olympic Champion Michael Jung missed out on the win with three driving penalties whilst the Irishman took to the left-hand drive Mercedes-Benz A-class like a duck to water.
