Great Britain’s Ruby Barrs wins FEI Jumping Ponies Trophy

Stuttgart – Pony riders certainly do not ride that often in such big arenas. With a near capacity 7,300 crowd in Stuttgart’s Hanns-Martin-Schleyer-Halle on Saturday afternoon, the FEI Jumping Ponies Trophy for the Prize of the Ensinger Mineral-Heilquellen GmbH enjoyed the big stage.

Ten of the 23 pairs made it to the jump-off where the 15-year-old Briton Ruby Barrs riding her two years older pony Pony Casper claimed the win after crossing the line in 43.95 seconds. Second in the international field was the Norwegian Julie Arebrot Skai on Shannon`s Joy (0/45.81) ahead of Coen Williams (Ireland). Though the third placed Irish rider on his Zee Tech was the quickest (40.54) in the jump-off, he had one fence down.

Winner Ruby Barrs was over the moon with her win saying: “It was fantastic being able to ride in front of such a great crowd. It was really nice winning in such a wonderful arena.”

The double European champion and winner of yesterday’s preliminary class James Derwin (Ireland) was however out of luck today. He exited in the jump-off.
