Top speed through “owl hole” – Michael Jung wins Indoor Derby

(acm/mps) Local hero Michael Jung showed not one bit of respect for the huge natural fences in the Hanns-Martin-Schleyer-Halle on Wednesday evening. He went round the Indoor Derby’s - the eventing competition at the 21st International STUTTGART GERMAN MASTER Horse Show – on the nine-year-old gelding Candle Light in 91.21 seconds and had no trouble in overcoming four penalty seconds for a jumping fault. Even so, the 23-year-old was way ahead of the opposition in the end with a total time of 95.21 seconds. The 2003 double European Junior Riders Champion easily left two Athens Olympics participants, Ingrid Klimke and Frank Ostholt (both Germany) who both went clear, in his wake in second and third respectively. Whilst three-time German Champion Klimke grabbed second on Gelha’s Seacoockie in 98.56 seconds, Ostholt, who won the Indoor Derby in Stuttgart in 2003, placed third on After the Battle in 99.73 seconds.
