Trained eye: Captain Mark Phillips observes Indoor Derby

Captain Mark Phillips, the 1972 Olympic Champion in Munich was one of the most famous and competent observers of the indoor eventing competition on the opening day of the 21st International STUTTGART GERMAN MASTERS Horse Show. The Briton retired after the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul. Since then the former husband of Princess Anne has also gained an excellent reputation as coach and course designer. For the past twelve years the 57-year-old father of European Champion Zara Philips has coached the eventing team of the United States which won team gold at the World Equestrian Games for the first time in 28 years in Jerez, Spain in 2000.
