Emilio’s brilliant final ride in Hanns-Martin-Schleyer-Halle: win with Isabell Werth in the FEI Grand Prix Freestyle

Stuttgart – Goosebump moments and ecstasy: the 8,000 crowd at the 37th International STUTTGART GERMAN MASTERS Horse Show almost blew the roof off the Hanns-Martin-Schleyer-Halle. The world’s most successful rider, Isabell Werth (Germany), won the FEI Grand Prix Freestyle, a qualifying class for the FEI Dressage World CupTM 2023/2024.

“Emilio was savouring every moment, he was calm and composed, but at the same time full of power, and it was simply a joy to ride him,” commented the winner with a massive smile on her face. In his last appearance in Stuttgart, the 17-year-old Westphalian gelding and his rider, the last pair to go, were awarded 86.880 percent. It left them four percent to the good of the second-placed Dane Nanna Skodborg Merrald in the saddle on Blue Hors Don Olymbrio, the 15-year-old KWPN stallion (82.965).

Sweden’s Patrik Kittel, who came sixth in the Grand Prix on Friday, scored 81.340 percent atop the 13-year-old Westphalian stallion Bonamour and finished in third this time. “I’m super satisfied with Bonamour and really happy that she performed like she did in this special atmosphere,” said the current leader in the World Cup ranking.

The runner-up Nanna Skodberg Merrald was impressed by the atmosphere during the class saying, “The Stuttgart crowd is fantastic. When you ride here you get the feeling of being a part of a party.”
