Stuttgart – Year three after the serial winner Michael Freund and the third different winner. Two fantastic laps of the course in the Hanns Martin Schleyer Halle on Saturday afternoon gave Boyd Exell the win in the SCHENKER GERMAN MASTER. Last year’s World Cup winner clocked 213.88 and the success earned him 6,500 euro in prize money. Having already finished first in Hanover at the end of October, it meant that the 37-yer-old has now won both rounds of the FEI World Cup DrivingTM 2009/2010. “I’ve been second a couple of times here.
I suppose I had to wait for Michael Freund to retire before I could win in Stuttgart,” said a delighted Boyd Exell. The President of the Equestrian Federation of Australian, Paul Cargill, who travelled down to Stuttgart from Copenhagen, was thrilled, “with the first Australian victory in the Hanns Martin Schleyer Halle. After a week of talks at the FEI congress, it was wonderful to see such great equestrian sport.” He continued by saying, “We in Australia are all very proud of Boyd. The atmosphere and the show in the hall were great. We are lucky to have such a great event.”
Back in second place was the 2008 team world champion Koos de Ronde (NED), who finished in a combined time of 227.97 seconds. His performance today added 4,000 euro to his bank account. Last year’s dominant driver, the double world champion Ijsbrand Chardon (NED), earned 3,000 euro after finishing third in a time of 231.22 seconds. The previous year’s winner Jozsef Dobrovitz from Hungary failed to qualify for the final. His time of 128.40 was only good enough for fourth. One behind him in fifth was Theo Timmerman (NED/129.82). The crowd favourite and local hero, the 19-year-old Michael Brauchle from nearby Lauchheim was not blessed with the best of luck in the first round. His time of 134.10 seconds put him back in sixth place.
