“All the nines”: Michael Jung wins the Indoor Derby for the Prize of WALTER solar for a ninth time

Stuttgart – Michael Jung’s comfortable victory in the eventing indoor derby for the Prize of WALTER solar brought the first day of the 36th International STUTTGART GERMAN MASTERS Horse Show to a sensational end. Riding his nine-year-old gelding Kilcandra Ocean Power, the crowd favourite from nearby Horb “pulverised” his rivals in Stuttgart’s Hanns-Martin-Schleyer-Halle when winning by a margin of 10 seconds. The last to go, Jung relegated the 2019 winner Cathal Daniels (Ireland) on CDS Cairnview Romolu (53.43) into second when stopping the clock in 44.52 seconds.

“It’s fantastic that the GERMAN MASTERS is taking place again and it’s a real pleasure to ride here,” said “Michi” Jung after his brilliant performance. “Thanks to my supporters, I’ve got fabulous horses at my disposal. Kilcandra Ocean Power gave me a wonderful feel today and was a great ride.”

Watched on by 5,600 thrilled spectators, the Swede Sofia Sjöborg came third on her 13-year-old KWPN gelding Eastbourne (53.64). Earlier in the afternoon, a 4,000 crowd was in the arena for the dressage class for the Prize of iWEST, the style jumping class for junior riders from the federal state of Baden Württemberg where the NÜRNBERGER Burg Pokal was at stake and the preliminary class for the BW-Bank Indoor Championship on Thursday for the Prize of the Schmidt Sporthandschuhe GmbH.

Before the start of the Indoor Derby, the CEO of in.Stuttgart, Andreas Kroll, honoured Hildegard and Wolfgang Walter for the support they have given to the horse show over the last decade as a main sponsor. Their Ellwangen-based WALTER solar company had previously been a long-time exhibitor in the Hanns-Martin-Schleyer-Halle. “We’d like to say a big thank-you to you both and we are looking forward to enjoying many other horse shows with you,” said Kroll when bringing the ceremony to an end.
