A fence down costs “Michi” Jung a tenth win

Stuttgart – Two Irish riders outdo local hero Michael Jung – a Jennifer Kuehnle/Cathal Daniels one-two prevents the four-time Olympic champion from chalking up a tenth victory. The honorary citizen of nearby Horb and the ambassador of the STUTTGART GERMAN MASTERS thus missed out on a golden opportunity to win the eventing Indoor Derby for the Prize of WALTER solar. By incurring a three-second penalty atop his nine-year-old gelding Ignatz H, he finished with a total time of 37.09 seconds. It left him in third place only three hundredth behind the runner-up.

Winner Jennifer Kuehnle in the saddle on Sammy Davis Junior, a 15-year-old gelding, went clear in 35.63 seconds at the end of the second phase – and nobody could match her. The 22-year-old went faster than her countryman Cathal Daniels who had led for much of the competition. He crossed the finishing line on his 17-year-old mare Rioghan Rua in a time of 37.06 seconds.

Earlier in the afternoon, 3,900 equestrian fans followed the dressage class for the Prize of iWEST, the final event in the NÜRNBERGER Burg Cup for the region’s juniors, and the jumping competition for the Prize of Schmidt Sporthandschuhe.
