Ijsbrand Chardon pips Boyd Exell: World Cup win and DB SCHENKER GERMAN MASTER

Stuttgart – “Slipstreaming” to victory: the multiple world and European champion Ijsbrand Chardon added a second DB SCHENKER GERMAN MASTER title to the one he won in 2007 on Saturday at the 32nd International STUTTGART GERMAN MASTERS Horse Show. In the first competition in the FEI World CupTM Driving 2016/2017 series, he pipped the Australian Boyd Exell to the post in the winner’s round after the latter triumphed in the warm up class on Friday. Chardon initially came second but turned things around when World Cup points were at stake – akin to powering to the win after slipstreaming down the finishing straight.

Competing in front of a sell-out 8,000 crowd in the Hanns-Martin-Schleyer-Halle, the Dutchman prevented the Australian, who won in 2014 and 2015 following successes in 2009 und 2010, from completing a hat-trick of wins.

“My wheel horse to the right of the pole was new so that the performance yesterday was unbelievable and the one today was very good,” commented Chardon. “Today the course was very quick but technically not so difficult as the one before.” His rival Exell: “My horses were super but I unfortunately made a mistake at the first obstacle in the second round – the lapse of concentration was decisive.”

Georg von Stein bagged an outstanding third place after coming fifth on Friday. “It was a super course,” said the German when congratulating the course designer Wolfgang Asendorf (Germany).
