After previously winning in 2009, 2010 and 2012, it was his fourth success in the competition. “It was a great show and it’s a super and educated public,” said the man from Down Under when praising the audience. “It’s fun driving here,” he continued. The winner however felt the pressure before his drive, “because everyone drove excellently.”

After claiming victory in the opening competition on Friday, Boyd Exell was determined not to let anyone get the better of him from the word go. He and his four-horse team chalked up 251.18 seconds for the two rounds which was over nine seconds up on the Dutchman Ijsbrand Chardon (260.35). “It you want to win against Boyd, you can’t make any mistakes and you always have to be quick,” said the fair runner-up.

Third place went to Germany’s Christoph Sandmann (275.05). Boyd Exell pocketed 5,500 euro prize money for his victory whilst Chardon and Sandmann will take home 4,000 and 3,000 euro respectively. All the drivers were full of praise for course designer Dr. Wolfgang Asendorf. “The course was spot on and very quick,” said Christoph Sandmann.
