“Super-Mario” cruises to win

Stuttgart – Excitement is always high when it is time for the equestrian triathlon. It was more of the same on the opening evening of the 38th International STUTTGART GERMAN MASTERS Horse Show. The thrilling mixture of the, if possible, faultless negotiation of the course on a horse, the sprint to the “shooting range” where the contestants had to fire five shots with a laser pistol and then the concluding slalom in a buggy was mastered best of all by “Super-Mario” Walter. The local rider went clear in all three sections and his time of 92.17 seconds went unbeaten.

Second was fellow German Sebastian Heller (98.35) in the saddle on the Hanoverian gelding Kosmos. One place behind in third was the Norwegian Victoria Gulliksen and her mare Billy Etna (102.84). She posted a clear round on her horse, hit all five targets but knocked one ball off the cones.

The remaining show highlights in the evening also generated a fantastic atmosphere amongst the 6,000 crowd. First up was Lisa Röckener with her “Eventing skills – a bit different” display and then it was time for the trainees and carriages from the Marbach State Stud. The following LILA-LOVES-IT dog agility contest for the “2024 GERMAN MASTERS Agility Champion” title was won by Zoe Strohäker from nearby Herrenberg and her Shetland Sheepdog “Ice”. Finally, the audience was thrilled by the Wolkenstein Riding Group’s show in Medieval costumes.

Earlier in the afternoon, 3,900 equestrian fans followed the dressage class for the Prize of iWEST, the final event in the NÜRNBERGER Burg Cup for the region’s juniors, and the jumping competition for the Prize of Schmidt Sporthandschuhe.
