British triumph in STUTTGART GERMAN MASTER

Fabulous atmosphere and a winner from the British Isles: Harry Charles is the STUTTGART GERMAN MASTER. The last to go in the jump-off in front of 8,000 thrilled spectators in the Hanns-Martin-Schleyer-Halle late on Friday evening, the 24-year-old won the horse show’s second most important jumping class after going clear in a time of 35.02 seconds.

In the saddle on his 12-year-old mare Aralyn Blu, he finished ahead of the previous leader Steve Guerdat (Switzerland) atop the nine-year-old gelding Albführen’s Iashin Sitte to earn himself prize money totalling 33,000 euro.

“You don’t have so many days like today when you can win twice. It was the best show of my life,” said the overjoyed Briton who is the youngest rider to etch his name on the STUTTGART GERMAN MASTER roll of honour. “The Stuttgart horse show was the first one to go on my World Cup schedule, and I rode my best horse today because I wanted to win.” Andreas Krieg, the horse show director responsible for jumping, congratulated Charles who “rode spot on” to join the brothers John and Michael Whitaker on the list of winners.

European champion Guerdat was also faultless but he took 35.31 seconds – runner-up and prize money totalling 20,000 euro. There was the only woman rider in the final round, namely the Frenchwoman Penelope Leprevost who came third on Texas, a 12-year-old gelding (0/37.01). She received 15,000 euro for her efforts. The best German in the jump-off which was contested by six riders that had gone clear in the first round was Philipp Schulze Topphoff on Clemens de la Lande NRW (4/34.49). He was rewarded with 10,000 euro.
