World No. 1 Christian Ahlmann repeats win in Grand Prix of Stuttgart

Stuttgart – Successful title defence: World No. 1 Christian Ahlmann has repeated his win in the Grand Prix of Stuttgart – presented by MERCEDES-BENZ, WALTER solar and BW-BANK. On Sunday, he became the second rider to achieve the feat since 2005 – the year Stuttgart became a stopover on the World Cup tour for the first time. The German joins countrywoman Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum, who won in 2006, 2007 and 2008. Last year Ahlmann saddled Codex One, this time around he was atop his 16-year old Olympic horse Taloubet Z and also went clear in the 19-rider jump-off in front of 6,400 spectators. It took him only to 42.85 seconds to stop the clock – nobody was quicker. “I’m unbelievably proud of my horse. I took many risks and he fought like a young one,” said the delighted winner.

It means that the 41-year old has not only won the qualifying leg of the Longines FEI World CupTM Jumping 2016/2017, but also a Mercedes-Benz GLE 350 d 4MATIC worth around 75,000 Euro. He also received 20 points for the World Cup’s Western European League rankings where, after five from 13 stopovers, is currently lying 12th with 20 points.

Second was the London Olympic Champion Steve Guerdat (Switzerland) on the ten-year mare Bianca (0/44.95). “It’s the fourth time I’ve come second here, but I was beaten by the very best,” said the Swiss when accepting his “fate”.

Good Luck, a ten-year old stallion, carried Cian O’Connor (Ireland) to third place (0/45.03): “On the whole I’m very, very happy. It’s his first indoor season and he sometimes gets a little distracted. I’m so also proud to have been beaten by the best.”
